APRIL 20, 2014
Virginia ace Kenny Compton, Jr. returned to dirt-slinging
action on Saturday night, April 19 at the nearby Wythe Raceway
in Rural Retreat, Virginia. After timing in sixth quickest
in the Crate Late Model division at the big 1/2-mile oval,
Kenny started the weekly feature event from the outside
of the third row. He then advanced up to third near the
halfway point in the A-Main before his racecar got "tight"
and eventually lost all of its brakes. Kenny wound up limping
his machine home in the fifth position, as he trailed only
winner Barry Arnold, Jason Lawrence, Trevor Cregger, and
Lance Reynolds to the checkers. Complete results from Wythe
can be accessed by clicking on www.wytheraceway.com.
APRIL 6, 2014
Compton, Jr. and his #10 team were back on the Carolina
Clash Super Late Model Series tour on Saturday evening,
April 5 at Fayetteville Motor Speedway in Fayetteville,
North Carolina. The 6th Annual 'Ed Gibbons Memorial' took
place last night and a $4,000 top prize was up for grabs.
Kenny timed in seventh quickest during the qualifying session,
which enabled the Bland, Virginia ace to start the 40-lapper
from the inside of the fourth row. He then moved all the
way up to the third spot until suffering an untimely flat
right rear tire, which sent him pitside to the attention
of the KC Racing crew. Kenny returned to the speedplant
at the tail end of the lead lap cars and blasted back through
the field to salvage a fourth place effort behind only victor
Jonathan Davenport, Brandon Overton, and Kyle Pierce. Full
results from Fayetteville can be viewed online at www.carolinaclash.com.
MARCH 16, 2014
#10 KC Racing team invaded the Carolina Speedway in Gastonia,
North Carolina on Saturday, March 15 for the 14th edition
of the 'Skyler Trull Memorial,' which served as the 2014
lid lifter for the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series.
Kenny Compton, Jr. laid down the sixth fastest lap of the
27 entrants during qualifying, which locked him into the
outside of the third row for the start of the $4,000 to
win main event. Unfortunately, Kenny was involved in a wreck
on one of the initial starts of the race and was sent to
the rear of the field. He battled all the way back up to
seventh before another incident knocked out the radiator
and forced the Bland, Virginia native to retire from the
40-lapper in the fifteenth position. Full results from the
'Skyler Trull Memorial' can be accessed online at www.carolinaclash.com.
MARCH 2, 2014
Compton, Jr. and his #10 team kicked off their version of
the 2014 racing season on March 1-2 with the annual running
of 'March Madness' at the renowned Cherokee Speedway in
Gaffney, South Carolina. Both weekend events were Southern
Nationals Bonus Races and paid $3,000 and $10,000 to win
respectively. On Saturday, Kenny timed in ninth quickest
during the qualifying session, which locked him into the
inside of the fifth row for the start of the 30-lap main
event. The Bland, Virginia ace wound up retiring at the
halfway mark in the race due to overheating woes and was
scored in the thirteenth finishing position.
Things heated up at Cherokee earlier today, as more cars
filed into the speedway for the $10,000 to win 'March Madness'
finale. Kenny posted the twenty-first fastest lap during
time trials and later placed seventh in his heat race. After
rolling off from the outside of the twelfth row in the 60-lapper,
Kenny completed only twenty-eight circuits due to more motor
troubles and was once again paid for thirteenth at the pay
window following the race. Full results from the doubleheader
weekend at Cherokee can be found by clicking on www.southernnationalsseries.com.
FEBRUARY 4, 2014
The KC Racing team was scheduled to start their 2014 campaign
on February 7-8 at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Georgia,
but wet track conditions and a poor weather forecast forced
the cancellation of the 'Winter Freeze IV.' Kenny Compton,
Jr. is now planning for the annual 'March Madness' at Cherokee
Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina on March 1-2 as his
season opening events. Additional information on the pair
of Southern Nationals Bonus Races, which pay $3,000 and
$10,000 to win respectively, can be found online at www.southernnationalsseries.com.
